Higher education services
Promoting a quality, sustainable, innovative higher education sector in the NT.
The Department of Education and Training (DET) assists the Minister for Education and Training to fulfil the responsibilities for higher education in the Northern Territory. The Minister is the approving authority for the provision of higher education, and may decide to impose conditions, relating to the criteria, for approval.
A register of non self-accrediting providers offering higher education courses, which have been accredited by the Northern Territory Minister for Education and Training, is available below.

Definition of higher education
In Australia, higher education is the sector that offers university-level education, that is at degree-level and above. The Commonwealth and State and Territory governments share responsibility for the sector.
In the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF), higher education courses are those leading to the award of associate degree, bachelor's degree, graduate certificate, graduate diploma, master's degree or doctoral degree. Some courses leading to the award of a diploma or advanced diploma may also be accredited as higher education.
Almost all higher education in Australia is offered by universities. A small but growing number of non-university providers and overseas institutions also offer accredited higher education courses.
Quality and approvals in the NT
Quality assurance and approval arrangements for higher education in the NT are described in the relevant legislation. Legislation relating to quality and approvals in the higher education sector in the Northern Territory came into effect on 27 September 2006.
