International student programs

CRICOS Registered Provider No: 000780M

The Northern Territory Government offers a well-established and high quality education system. Government schools are CRICOS registered and can offer places to international students. The Northern Territory Certificate of Education (NTCE) is awarded at the end of year 12 and is recognised for entry purposes by all tertiary institutions in Australia.

All government secondary schools and colleges meet a high standard of teacher qualification, curriculum content class size and school facilities. Requirements are set by the Northern Territory Government and the Northern Territory Board of Studies. Our teachers are provided with opportunities to develop specialist skills in their chosen subject areas. As well, schools and colleges are able to develop their own character and individual approach to education. All schools and colleges offer a wide variety of subjects to meet individual needs.

What can I study?

The following programs are available in our participating colleges and schools.

  • Primary School (course code 058742E)

  • Need to meet English language requirements
  • Enrolment as a full time student
  • No outstanding debts to the Commonwealth of Australia
  • Sufficient financial support to cover all expenses incurred during your stay in Australia

How do I apply?

The International Services Branch is responsible for processing all applications to study in Northern Territory Government Schools received from prospective international students. On completion and return of the application form to the International Services Branch (ISB) an appropriate school will be identified and, if the application is accepted, you will be issued with an Offer Letter.

Tuition fees

Tuition fees will vary depending on the year level and length of study. The fees are reviewed every year. A refundable security bond of A$1000 is required to be paid at the time of first enrolling. This is refunded at the completion of the study program as long as all books and materials are returned to the school prior to the student leaving the school/college. Other costs to be met include compulsory Overseas Students Health Cover, visa fees and the cost of airfares to and from Australia. Students will also need about A$250 per week to cover accommodation, food and incidental expenses.

Accommodation

Assistance is given to help students attending Northern Territory secondary schools and colleges to find suitable accommodation. The options for accommodation are:

  • Boarding with host families
  • Rental of a house or flat for students over the age of 18 years

The Northern Territory Department of Education and Training (DET) runs a Homestay program. The Department is responsible for selecting a reliable and caring host family for each student. If a student wishes to rent a house or flat, it is advisable that at least two students share the accommodation and both of them should be over 18 years of age. Students can be assisted in finding rental accommodation.
