Many of the Territory's brightest and creative school students will come together to participate in the Tournament of Minds in Darwin tomorrow.

Some 273 students from 20 schools, including for the first time all Darwin, Palmerston and rural area middle schools will don their thinking caps in a bid to earn the right to represent the Territory at the Australasian Pacific Tournament of Minds final next month.

Four teams from Central Australia will also take part, courtesy of technology and software that will enable them to compete from 1500 km away.

NT Tournament of Minds Director Yvonne Darcey said students from Years 2 to Years 10 had been preparing for todays Language Literature, Maths/Engineering and Applied Technology categories.

"The tournament is an opportunity for students with a passion for learning and problem solving to demonstrate their skills and talents in an exciting, vibrant, and public way," she said.

"It aims to enhance the potential of our youth by developing diverse skills, including enterprise, time management and the discipline to work collaboratively within a challenging and competitive environment."

Two primary teams and three middle/secondary teams will earn the right to represent the Territory at the Australasian Pacific final in Brisbane on 24 October.
