Northern Territory Curriculum Framework (NTCF)
Since 2002 the Northern Territory (NT) has had a mandated Curriculum Framework that identifies learning outcomes for all Northern Territory learners from Transition to Year 10. The NTCF describes what learners are expected to achieve and is used to determine what learners have achieved.
Year 10 curriculum
The Year 10 curriculum provides a strategy for aligning the learning outcomes of the NTCF with the assessment requirements of the NTCET. Learning outcomes are restated as learning requirements for subjects and courses. Assessment requirements from the NTCET are used to structure the way evidence of student learning is gathered and assessed. English, ESL, Mathematics, Science and SOSE are mandated subjects in Year 10 curriculum. Each subject offers courses and pathways to senior secondary courses.
Northern Territory Certificate of Education (NTCE)
The NTCE is awarded to students who successfully complete their senior secondary education. Students usually complete their NTCE over 2 years, but may take longer. Northern Territory students in Year 11 and Year 12 undertake the NTCE.
Northern Territory Certificate of Education and Training (NTCET)
The new NTCET qualification is designed to recognise the knowledge and skills that have been acquired through formal education and training. The completion requirements for the NTCET have been approved by the Northern Territory Board of Studies. Students start their NTCET in Year 10 and the first students will graduate in 2011.
Northern Territory Board of Studies (NTBOS)
NTBOS develops and provides high-quality curriculum, assessment, reporting and certification to students in the Northern Territory from Preschool to Year 12. The Board's focus includes Vocational Education and Training in Schools, Year 11 and 12 outcomes and the Northern Territory Curriculum and Assessment framework, as well as middle years, early childhood, Indigenous education, awards and scholarships.
