Training Advisory Councils (TACs) are autonomous organisations that work with industry, enterprises, governments and training providers to improve training arrangements for their respective industries.
Specifically, operational support funding is provided to TACs to assist the Department of Education and Training to:
- contribute a Territory perspective to the development, implementation, maintenance and review of training packages
- act as a conduit between enterprises, industry and government on vocational education and training planning, policy and practice
- increase awareness and uptake of vocational education training.
There are six TACs in the Northern Territory, each with links to national and interstate training advisory networks.
Ministers Round Table on Employment and Training
The Employment and Training Round Table is a mechanism for providing employment and training advice direct to the Minister for Employment and Training.
The Employment and Training Round Table provides an opportunity to introduce a new means by which the government can seek advice on training stakeholders, industry and the community on the performance and future direction of the vocational education and training (VET) system.
The Round Table will provide an opportunity for industry stakeholders to engage in dialogue directly with Government on employment and training issues affecting the Northern Territory.
The aim of the Employment and Training Round Table is to facilitate constructive discussion and exchange views between Government and industry stakeholders about issues that are impacting on employment and training in the Northern Territory.
The Round Table encourages broad ranging discussion between Government and training industry stakeholders in the Northern Territory and will provide regular information updates on what is happening in the training, skilling and employment of Territorians.
The Round Table will also provide feedback on key employment and training initiatives, for example employment and training strategies in place to respond to skill shortages.
The government is looking to enhance the engagement of training industry stakeholders in the Northern Territory to identify and respond effectively to employment and training needs.
The Employment and Training Round Table represents the formal starting point to a very important new partnership process. The advisory arrangements process will be flexible to ensure we have in place a VET system responsive to industry and broad community needs.
