NT Board of Studies
The Northern Territory Board of Studies (NTBOS) develops and provides high quality curriculum, assessment, reporting and certification to students in the Northern Territory from Preschool to Year 12.
Student achievement in the senior secondary years is recognised through a comprehensive framework of certification that aims to ensure that every young person leaves school with appropriate documentation.
Student achievement in the early years through to middle years of schooling is assessed by classroom teachers and reported against the NT Curriculum Standards described in the NT Curriculum Framework. The National Assessment Program measures and monitors student achievement against national and international standards.

The first stage of the 2009 national student achievement information is provided as follows:

The second stage of more comprehensive student achievement information will be released on 18 December 2009.
The Board's focus includes Vocational Education and Training in Schools (VETiS) year 11 and 12 outcomes, and the Northern Territory Curriculum and Assessment framework, as well as middle years, early childhood, Indigenous education, and awards and scholarships.

More about NTBOS
The operational business of the Board including test development, implementation and reporting is done by the relevant operational sections of the Department of Education and Training. The Board is now made up of 16 members representing parents, employers, principals, teachers, post-school educators, unions, the non-government schools sector and the Indigenous community.
The Board promotes a common curriculum for the compulsory years of schooling which is designed to provide a challenging level of education for all learners, whatever their aspirations and abilities; and to ensure that all learners have the opportunity to learn in recognised areas.
In the pursuit of equity, the Board fosters the fullest participation in education of groups and individuals for whom participation may involve special problems. Student achievement is recognised through an inclusive framework of certification that aims to ensure every young person leaves school with appropriate documentation.
The Board meets approximately four times per year.
The Board has the following functions:
- Provides advice to the Minister for Education and Training and the Chief Executive of the Department of Education and Training on curriculum policy in relation to:
- Establishes and maintains curriculum frameworks that encompass the needs of all students in the Territory school education system
- Establishes and maintains procedures for student assessment, reporting and certification
- Monitors, evaluates and reports on student performances
- Improves student outcomes
- Government policy that impacts on the Board's functions
- Cooperates and consults with prescribed authorities or bodies engaged in education and related matters.
NT Board of Studies positions vacant
The board is responsible for providing independent advice on curriculum policy for Northern Territory schools to the Minister for Education and Training and the Chief Executive.
The Minister for Education and Training is seeking applications for NTBOS positions from:
- A parent of a child who attends a remote school (government or non-government)
- A parent of a child who attends a government school
- A member who represents the interests of Indigenous people
- A secondary school principal
The terms of appointment are until 31 October 2013. Remuneration will be paid to eligible members. Applications close Monday 9 August 2010.
