Wellbeing and behaviour
The focus on safer happier schools is a major imperative for the Northern Territory Government and especially the Department of Education and Training (DET). The broad aim of Wellbeing and Behaviour is to build the capacity of school communities and school staff to develop effectively safer, happier schools. As such, DET is piloting School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) with a view to rolling out the program to all Territory schools in the future.
In her opening address for the National Centre Against Bullying Conference in April, 2010, The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Education The Hon Julia Gillard highlighted the important links between safe, happy schools and academic achievement. Full details

Whole school
- SWPBS support school-based teams to write, revise and implement the school Wellbeing/Behaviour/Bullying and Cyber Safety Policies based on Safe Schools NT Code of Behaviour and the NT management of student behaviour policy and guidelines

Secondary prevention
- Working with groups of students with high risk behaviour
- Working with groups of students for leaderships or peer mentoring
- May assist school in developing Individual Positive Behaviour Support Plans

Tertiary prevention
- Individual Positive Behaviour Support Plans and case consultation with other Student Services Division professionals
- Positive Learning Centres support
- Extreme Behaviour Funding
