Training and beyond school

Higher education
Higher education is the sector that offers university-level education, that is, at degree level and above. Almost all higher education in Australia is offered by universities. A small but growing number of non-university providers and overseas institutions also offer accredited higher education courses.

Vocational Education and Training in Schools (VETiS)
The VETiS Program gives students the opportunity to try a profession while still at school. The student takes part in VET studies at school that can contribute towards achieving their Northern Territory Certificate of Education.

Apprenticeships and traineeships
Apprenticeships and traineeships combine practical work with structured training, which may be on or off the job. After your training is completed, you will receive a nationally recognised qualification and a Certificate of Completion. Apprenticeships and traineeships are now available in over 500 occupations in an increasing range of industries. Apprenticeship and traineeship qualifications that are approved for delivery in the NT are listed on the NT Apprenticeships and Traineeships database. Only registered training organisations are eligible to apply to the Department of Education and Training for funding consideration to deliver training and assessment services.

Indigenous training in regional and remote areas
The Department of Education and Training operates four regional and ten remote training centre facilities to assist and support regional and remote communities in accessing vocational training programs. The regional centres are in Katherine, Jabiru, Tennant Creek and Nhulunbuy.
