What apprenticeships / traineeships are available?

Choosing the right apprenticeship or traineeship is simply a matter of selecting the type of apprenticeship or traineeship training that suits your business best.

From 1 July 2006, ‘Australian Apprenticeships’ replaced the scheme formerly known as New Apprenticeships, and includes both apprentices and trainees.

All apprentices enter into a Training Contract. Under the Training Contract, the employer, apprentice and registered training organisation (RTO) work out a training schedule for the apprenticeship. Employment may be:

  • Fulltime;
  • Part-time; or
  • School-based students can start an apprenticeship or traineeship while still at school working 1 or 2 days per week (School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships).

Apprenticeships and traineeships are available at entry level (Australian Quality Framework (AQF) 1 & 2), advanced, trade and technician level (AQF 3 & 4) and Diploma (AQF 5). They are available across all industries from community services to agriculture.

There are many apprenticeships and traineeships for vocations available in the Northern Territory in areas such as business, construction, community services, the automotive industry, engineering and manufacturing.

You can obtain more information on apprenticeships, traineeships and Australian Apprenticeships from Australian Apprenticeships NT or search some of the available apprenticeships or traineeships through the NT Apprenticeships and Traineeships Database.

Further information relating to specific modules of training packages is available on the National Training and Information System website.
