Non-Competitive Programs
General Recurrent Program
General Recurrent Program (GRP) funds the NT public providers of VET, which are the Charles Darwin University and Batchelor Institute of Indigenous Tertiary Education. The NT GRP provides funding for training delivery, and other expenses incurred by the public providers in the delivery of VET.
Courses funded are identified through the use of Workforce NT, community consultations, NT government directions and student demand.

Competitive Programs
User Choice Program Overview
The User Choice Program provides funding for the delivery of structured training and assessment for full-time, part-time and school-based apprentices and trainees in the Northern Territory. Qualifications that are approved for delivery as apprenticeships and traineeships in the NT are eligible for funding. Funding is awarded through the use of Workforce NT, community consultations and NT Government priorities.
Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) wishing to provide structured training for apprentices and trainees are required to have a presence in the NT and to be familiar with:

Subsidies are available for travel and accommodation to apprentices and trainees who are required to travel for training blocks. See the NT Apprenticeships and Traineeships Travel and Accommodation Policy (pdf 59Kb) for details.
In general DET funds:
- Certificate II and III qualifications for new employees.
- Certificate IV or Diploma only if it is entry level to employment or a progression from Certificate III.
- One progression from Certificate II to III or Certificate III to IV.
- Existing workers in accordance with the User Choice Funding Program Policy.
Registered Training Organisations that are successful in applying for User Choice funding must enter into a funding contract (known as a Resource Agreement) with DET.

The VET in Schools Program supports VET programs in secondary schools. The program aims to give school students training in an industry area that meets their needs and is a priority for economic development in the Territory.

Pre-employment Training Program
The pre-employment training program provides specific training for unskilled or semi skilled people to gain essential industry skills, which may lead to increased opportunities to successfully complete an apprenticeship or gain skilled employment.

Driver Training and Licensing (DTAL) Program
The DTAL Program provides students with a broader theoretical knowledge and practical skills to help them become safe, proficient and skilful drivers in the community.

Flexible Response Funding
Flexible Response Funding specifically targets Indigenous people, for delivery of accredited and non-accredited training that links to work ready or employment on site in Indigenous communities. Indigenous communities can access funding at any time throughout the year.

Community Response Program
The program supports recurring accredited training that links to building the work ready skills of Indigenous people. For example, training in first aid and driver licensing.

Training for Remote Youth (TRY)
TRY is aimed at bringing youth and the local community together to provide structured training and learning experiences that will enable them to prepare for employment in the community or re-engage in further learning.
In general the criteria for TRY funding are
- Youth aged between 14 and 19 years of age
- Live in regional or remote localities of the Northern Territory
- Disengaged from school-based education.

Scholarships and Bursaries
Funding is provided for 40 higher education and 40 VET scholarships for school leavers and 20 teacher bursaries.
Scholarship recipients are offered vacation employment in NT Government agencies.
