Costs
The costs involved in becoming a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) range from registration fees, to infrastructure costs and the purchase of training packages.
Fees
Any organisation applying to become an RTO or renewing registration, must pay a registration fee to the Northern Territory Department of Education and Training (DET) .
The fee accompanying the application for registration/renewal of registration must be in the form of a cheque for $1000 made payable to the Receiver of Territory Monies.
Private sector RTOs may copyright their accredited courses by paying a fee of $100 for up to 100 nominal hours plus $1.00 for each nominal hour above 100. Courses developed by publicly funded RTOs are copyrighted to the Northern Territory Government and are available for system-wide use at a minimal cost. View a full schedule of fees.
Training Packages
RTOs base their training programs on nationally endorsed Training Packages. Training Packages contain nationally endorsed competency standards, assessment guidelines and qualifications frameworks for training and assessing skills in a specific industry, industry sector or enterprise.
Industry Skills Councils (ISC) develop Training Packages on behalf of the Department of Education, Science and Training and may sell them as complete packages or as components. Prices can range from under $100 to over $1000 depending on the contents of the Training Package, the industry and what components the RTO chooses to purchase.
Training Packages can also be ordered from Australian Training Products, a professional publishing company and national clearinghouse for all national, crown-copyrighted training material.
Employment and Training Division at DET provide free implementation guides to assist providers in making the transition to Training Packages. For more information, contact rachel.munnich@nt.gov.au.
